This weeks readings:

Take time to mediate on God’s word and prepare for worship this Sunday.  And as you meditate on them, consider the question of the week: “How do we, as disciples of Jesus Christ, hear that word of God and put it into practice in our lives? What will I do this week to help another and be of service?”

Deuteronomy 18:15-20

Psalm 111

1 Corinthians 7:32-35
Mark 1:21-28

Psalm 111:3-4

His work is full of majesty and splendor, * and his righteousness endures for ever.

He makes his marvelous works to be remembered; * the LORD is gracious and full of compassion.

Life was not easy for the Jewish remnant that returned to Jerusalem after the exile to Babylon.  Their neighbors were often hostile, the Persian officials were not always cooperative, and the economic system was difficult. Ezra the scribe and prophet Haggai describe some of these problems in their books and point out that the Jewish people were not always faithful to the Lord or generousness with each other. This is why God withheld his blessing.  This psalm may have been written by one of the Levits to remind the people to put the Lord first and to trust in him to meet all their needs.  -Warren Weirsbe

A GOOD REMINDER FOR US TODAY AS WELL!!!

BLESSING OF THROATS AFTER SERVICE IN COMMEMORATION OF THE FEAST OF ST. BLASÉ

St. Blasé was the bishop of Sebaste in Armenia during the fourth century.  Very little is known about his life.  According to various accounts he was a physician before becoming a bishop.  His cult spread throughout the entire Church in the Middle Ages because he was reputed to have miraculously cured a little boy who nearly died because of a fishbone in his throat.  From the eight century he has been invoked on behalf of the sick, especially those afflicted with illnesses of the throat

TO CANCEL SERVICE or NOT?
How you can be sure!

The freezing weather on Sunday morning kept some people home from service – and we understand! Better safe than sorry!
Certain members of the board have been tasked with making the decision to cancel services or not.  We try to carefully watch the weather,  predict what might happen by 1pm service time, and make a careful decision.  If canceled we will post as early as possible on our Facebook Page, send an email, and we do have an account with channel 69 news and you can see those closings at wfmz.com
Of course if power or internet becomes a problem, you may also call the church phone and the voice mail will be updated as well.  If your still not sure, then always better safe than sorry. Spend some time meditating on the weeks scriptures in the safety and warmth of your home.

How are you doing answering this  past week’s question
of the week from the bulletin?

“How will Jesus’ words today move me in this coming week to a commitment of belief and witness, compassion and service?”
