GOOD NEWS – The weekly Newsletter of ALL SOULS ECC
April 4, 2015
Dear Michael,
My sisters and brothers in Christ,
On Ash Wednesday we began our spiritual journey of renewal, a period of 40 days, known as Lent. Last Sunday, known as PalmSunday, marked the beginning of a week that is special to Christians throughout the whole world, Holy Week. We began our Holy Week celebration with palm branches in our hands, recalling the crowds that cried both “Hosanna!” and “Crucify!” celebrating Christ’s entrance into Jerusalem to accomplish his paschal mystery.
Maundy Thursday we began our three-day celebration of the passion and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, the sacred paschal Triduum. We celebrated the Last Supper. Yesterday, Good Friday, we remembered the sacrifice made for our sins and the veil between God and man being torn away. Today is the Great Easter Vigil where we celebrate the Risen Lord.
We hope to see you tonight as we celebrate the Risen Lord andtomorrow as we celebrate Easter Sunday!
This weeks readings and question of the week:
Take time to mediate on God’s word and prepare for worship this Sunday. And as you meditate on them, consider the question of the week:
Into what specific situation where faith, hope, or love seem to have died can I go this Easter week and season to share something of the joy and peace I have experienced as gifts of the Risen Jesus?
Acts 10:34-43
Psalm 118:1-2, 16-17, 22-24
1 Corinthians 15:1-11
Mark 16: 1-8
Mark 16:5-6a
5 As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.
6 “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.
Often times the most amazing and powerful scriptures – are the most simple. Here the Angel declares to the women, what Jesus and the prophets have been saying would happen – did indeed happen: HE IS RISEN! This scripture and this week is not just important in the calendar of the church – but as Christians it is the recognition of the very central point of our faith – that Christ died for our sins and Christ rose again. His death and resurrection is what makes our eternal life possible.
Celebrate your salvation and share it with others!
HE IS RISEN!

How are you doing answering this past week’s question
of the week from the bulletin?
As I carry home the blessed palms today, acknowledging Jesus as my king what one specific act can I commit to this week that will declare, without words, Jesus’ reign over my life?
