First Sunday of Lent
The weekly Newsletter of
ALL SOULS ECC
A Welcoming Family of Faith!
Sorry for this issue being a couple days late this week – but we hope you enjoy reading our news, pray for our prayer list, getting a preview of Sundays scriptures and hymns, and take note of upcoming events!
WELCOME to our visitor and new parishioners. We have some new faces joining us for worship! Come join us this Sunday as we welcome new members to the All Souls Family!
Coming up this week is Good Thyme for Life and Lenten Soups at Calvary UCC. Take note that instead of our March Pot Luck, we are doing Family Glow Bowl on March 18. See details below on all these events.
Please take the time to read the articles and information in this week’s “GOOD NEWS” including clicking on our prayer list and pray for the requests listed there.
Feel free to forward this newsletter to a family member or friend, or share it on your facebook page or twitter by using the “like” and “share” icons at the top of the page.
This weeks readings and question of the week:
Take time to mediate on God’s word and prepare for worship this Sunday. And as you meditate on them, consider the Question of the Week:
In what area of my life have I not trusted God’s providential care for me? How can I change that this Lent, even while making myself a living sign for someone else of God’s care?
Genesis 2:7-9; 3:1-7
Psalm 51:3-4, 5-6, 12-13, 17
Romans 5:12-19
Matthew 4:1-11
Psalm 51: 10-12, 14-15
A clean heart create for me, O God,
and a steadfast spirit renew within me.
Cast me not out from your presence,
and your Holy Spirit take not from me.
Give me back the joy of your salvation,
and a willing spirit sustain in me.
O Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth shall proclaim your praise
Our focus as individuals and as a parish community is to do our best in following the disciplines of this holy season: prayer, fasting and alms giving.
Prayer – select a special person in your life each week and say a little prayer each day for that individual.
Fasting – select a meal one day of the week where you will eat a little less, great for weight loss and healthy for the body as well.
Almsgiving – save your spare change in the All Souls plastic container which will assist us in our outreach programs.
Together as a parish community let us not only support one another with the commitment to regular attendance is Sunday but also in our journey together through Lenten sacrifices to Easter joy.

INVITE ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY OUT!
How are you doing answering this past week’s question of the week?
What practical commitment-to which charity or person-can I make before Lent begins this Wednesday so that my prayer, fasting, and almsgiving will reflect Jesus’ radical call to trust?
