Correction

Today’s GOODNEWS mistakenly announced that the Blessing of Throats would be tomorrow. Sorry, for the error. The ceremony of St. Blaise and the blessing of the throats is actually NEXT Sunday, February 5 after mass.

Saint Blaise is the Patron of Throat Illnesses and much of this has to do with a legend that a boy was brought to Saint Blaise who had a fishbone caught in his throat.

St Blaise, in 4th century Turkey, was a bishop who may have been a doctor before. He was imprisoned, tortured and killed during a persecution. Saint Blaise is often depicted holding two crossed candles in his hand, or in a cave with wild animals. He is also often shown with steel combs.

Sorry for any confusion – we would love to see you for both Sundays of course!
