September 11 is day of Remembrance and Service. Take time to remember those who died and the many others who lost friends, family, and loved ones. Do something in service to others – even if its just doing a random act of kindness.
We are getting excited for our first ever All Souls cookout on Saturday, September 26 from2-5 pmat Exeter Community Park. We need help with planning events, games, music, and food! We will discuss this after the service for the next couple weeks so think about how you can contribute! Come one, come all!
We need at least three people to serve on a short-term committee. See below for more details. Also see important information below about our Greeter’s Ministry and Transportation Ministry!
Please take the time to read the articles and information in this week’s “GOOD NEWS” including a change with our prayer list. Feel free to forward this newsletter to a family member or friend, or share it on your facebook page or twitter by using the “like” and “share” icons at the top of the page.
This weeks readings and question of the week:
Take time to mediate on God’s word and prepare for worship this Sunday. And as you meditate on them, consider the Question of the Week:
What shape does my particular cross take? What is the heaviest aspect of it? Forgetting my own cross for a moment, whose cross do I need to help carry this week?
Isaiah 50:5-9a
Psalm 116:1-8
James 2:14-18
Mark 8:27-35
James 2:14-18
What good is it, my brothers and sisters,
if someone says he has faith but does not have works?
Can that faith save him?
If a brother or sister has nothing to wear
and has no food for the day,
and one of you says to them,
“Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well, ”
but you do not give them the necessities of the body,
what good is it?
So also faith of itself,
if it does not have works, is dead.
Indeed someone might say,
“You have faith and I have works.”
Demonstrate your faith to me without works,
and I will demonstrate my faith to you from my works.
The works James requires are not done apart from faith but done in faith, not done instead of faith but done because of faith. Faith is the underlying stance of Christian life; deeds are the way of life; becoming mature and complete is the goal of Christian life. James cannot be charged with opposing deeds to faith, since he does not say, “I will show you deeds instead of faith.” Rather, he contends for a showing of both faith and deeds: I will show you my faith by what I do. He does not object to faith; he objects only to faith not accompanied by action. Simply stated, he wants Christians to have faith that works.

Now is the time to start looking ahead to our Annual Meeting in November and looking for new persons to fill the board. Every year, two terms expire – so we have at least two positions to fill, but we can also add more members to the Board of Directors.
We will be seeking new board members before our November Annual meeting – if you are interested in being on the Board of Directors, see Jerry Schearer, Fr. Henry, or any of the other board members for more information or to express your interest. If you want to be part of the Nominating Committee that we are not forming, please see Jerry. This committee will be responsible to find at least two people to serve on the Board and then present these at the Annual Meeting to be voted on.

How are you doing answering this past week’s
question of the week?
Noting the communal aspect of this healing in the gospel, since others brought the man to Jesus, have I brought anyone to Jesus lately? Is there someone I should invite?
