Merry Christmas from All Souls!  We are thankful for those who were able to spend Christmas Eve with us – it was a beautiful service.  Thanks to everyone who helped green the chapel last Sunday, set up or participated in the service, and helped provide our hospitality. Mostly we are thankful for the gift of the Christ Child!

This weeks readings and question of the week:

Take time to mediate on God’s word and prepare for worship this Sunday.  And as you meditate on them, consider the Question of the Week:

“Beloved, we are God’s children now.”   How well do I live up to being “a child of God”?

Isaiah 61:10-62:3
Psalm 147
1 John 3:1-2, 21-24
Luke   2:41-52
1 John 3:1-2
See what love the Father has bestowed on us
that we may be called the children of God.
And so we are.
The reason the world does not know us
is that it did not know him.
Beloved, we are God’s children now;
what we shall be has not yet been revealed.
We do know that when it is revealed we shall be like him,
for we shall see him as he is.
John wrote this letter to encourage the Christians. He wanted them to know the truth. Then they would recognise false ideas. The letter shows that Christians are children of God. They know God as Father. If God is their Father, then they are all *brothers and sisters. John shows them the kind of life that the children of God should live. They all share the life that the *Lord Jesus gives to them. This is *eternal life, which has no end. John wants all Christians to know that they have this life. He wants them to be sure about this.
John wrote about the truth. This is how we know the truth. We know it because we have met Jesus. We know Jesus, so we know the truth.
This is what the letter says to the Christians.  –Ian Mackervoy

How are you doing answering this  past week’s
question of the week?
How can I “go out of myself” this week and throughout the Christmas season to bring the “balm of God’s tender mercy”? Think of a specific person or situation.
